Jus' sketchin'

Some recent sketchin' I did trying to come up with some ideas for Art Jumble. The bonus was I got to listen to some friends harp on the art and comic industry for a bit. No matter who you are, some days you just see some guy making it, getting a slap on the back from the good fortune fairy and you can't help but ask, "Why him?"

We can't help it, it's just human nature. You can be happy for said individuals 364 days of the year, but there's that ONE day when you read or hear of someone's success be it a promotion, some awesome painting they did, book deal, or even movie deal, and you think," Holy F ! I hate that guy!".....and then you hit the art table for another night thinking, if you're lucky, somebody might be hating on you one day...:)

Eddie Lives again!

Iron Maiden is coming to Phx. Not only are they coming, they are re-doing the set from their Powerslave tour. I saw this show when I was 15 or 16 and it made me a fan for life. I was actually moved to goosebumps when they reached the epic hightlight of Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner...it was that bad-ass. In fact, it was so bad-ass I've been rather disappointed they never replayed it in any concert I've seen since....till now.....

And yes, you can see the fancy shmancy ad I've got over here for our book . It's called Cake and you should order one....really..... that's all the pimpin' I'm going to do for now.

Whew! busy weekend..

another sketch page I did this weekend....

Canary and WW, inspired by J. Bone...

...wow , that sounded weird! Well, J. Bone is an artist and he recently did a story in the back of Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier Special. All around goodness in this issue and a nice companion to one the best DC stories I've read in years. J. Bone was Cooke's inker in the original series and they had him pencil the WW story. After seeing said pencils I hope they get this guy to do more. Great fun cartooning and style. Anyway, I just had to draw something after reading his story, ended up with a quasi Bruce Timm/Cooke thing with nowhere the fun that they usually put in their stuff.....oh well....just keep drawing, I guess....

More of red and some sketches

Some more sketches I did for the Red Riding Hood thread. I was thinking the guns; etc, would be different and the first post on Art Jumble had a Red with guns.....yeah, I'm an unoriginal bastard, what can I say. The other is just some sketchin' I did over the weekend...

Red Riding roughs

Some ideas I had for an Art Jumble.....probably won't go much further than these....until I put out a "Chicks With Swords" book.....C'mon, the title pretty much sells itself!

Sketchin'!

Finally got to go sketchin' with some friends. Nice to actually sit down and draw stuff....

Beasty

Did this for AJ, just glad to actually be doing some sketchin' lately...this year has been crazy already!!

Bar fight!

just some warm up doodlin'....pretty staged and unoriginal but I gotta' get all these bad drawings out of the way so I can eventually get to the good stuff......someday....

Cyclops

Just some goofin' around....remember when Cyclops was called "Slim"?.....man, I'm a big nerd......

scraps

ah...haven't been doing much in the sketchbook so here's some doodles from some scrap pages at work.

comic

Well, the slacking is over! Finally finished a comic I've been working on. It's a book some Art Jumble guys and I wanted to do and have been working on the the last few months. It will still be a while before this baby sees print so I thought I'd at least throw some sneak peeks in to at least show the doubters( mostly my family) that I actually finished something!

New Years Day

Garbage can? Check.

Cup of water? Check.

Minnie Mouse blanket? Check.

Inability to lay horizontal because the room won't stop spinning? Check.

Great New Years Eve spent with friends and family? Check.

Was it worth it?..............................................

Cap

Well, It's 2008. Figured I'd post an old pic I had of Cap, seeing as how he got killed off last year...

I hope to have some new images soon and some sneak peeks of a comic I've been trying to finish. It's not until you do one that you REALLY respect those guys that do it day in, day out.

Strange Girl

Been so busy with family, a certain comic project, and the holidays I have'nt had any time to do some sketchin' so I figured I'd post some older stuff from the 'ol pic files. This was part of some samples I sent to work on a possible project with Rick Remender. The series was finished not too long ago so I'm sure he won't mind me posting this ......at least, I'm pretty sure he won't mind.....

Invaders

Don't know why...been on an Invaders kick lately. Another from the sketchbook.

Black Canary

Some Timm influenced sketchiness....

sketchbook page

......wish I had more to say.....

sketchin'

Just some stuff from the ol' sketchbook...

Hulk

....still having computer problems.....

Elektra

Went really sloppy with this...trying some different things, it rarely works, but still gotta' try...

Destroyer!

A Timely comics guy from WWII . Invaders were some of the first comics I ever read and this guy with Cap and Union Jack just had the coolest costumes around......and yeah, I really use that pose too much...didn't even realize it...

sketchy crap....

I've been having serious computer problems and that's just one of MANY reasons I have'nt posted lately. So I just scanned a doodle page and some post-its from my work area. Not much, I know. I should have some things to show later......hopefully......

Cowgirl

I also posted this on Art Jumble, but all two of you who actually visit here will notice you're getting the special edition version. I cleaned it up a bit more and added some fancy drybrushes to it, and the jpeg is a LITTLE bit cleaner .......fancy, huh?

Kitty and Lockheed

Art Jumble had a Dragon thread. I as hoping to do something a bit more epic, but have been really pressed for time lately. Anyway, did this and the one at AJ. I figured I might as well post 'em...

more sketches...

Just another page from the ol' sketchbook. The Iron Man pic has some obvious Canete influence,I had just looked at his recent Iron Man issue. Go buy it , the guy rocks!

WWII Cap

Been a slow couple of weeks...

new sketchy book stuff

Best Halloween Party Ever

Well, it's already that time again, my buddy Jim throws a pretty mean Halloween bash every year, and it's time to start getting the invites going( he's been hasslin' me for weeks) So here's the image for it Jim, you can stop threatening my Grandma now....

Drink and Draw

Well, it was the first Drink and Draw here in Phoenix, a good time was had by all. I'd like to take a moment to thank Ryan Cody for the invite. As you can see, being surrounded by all that talent inspired me to totally draw outside of my comfort zone. That's why you see something very rare from this blog; a Death Dealer and woman with sword!! ...I know..it's crazy....

Psylocke

I took Jim Mariano's challenge and stretched my abilities to the limit. WITNESS!!; Scantily clad female with TWO swords!!!!

more sketchin'

drew this the other night drawing with Harper......

Slayer

Just more messin' around with a Pitt pen and tone marker...

Red Sonja

Something for the AJ board...not entirely happy with this but learned some things in PS . I still have a ways to go concerning color. I will probably be re-doing this when I get some time...It amazes me how some people make coloring look so easy!

recent stuff

It's Harry Potter on art jumble...

Yes , another art jumble post. I try to do these every week, mainly for the challenge of drawing things I would not usually do. It makes the blog a little more interesting(I hope!). I mean, how many times can I just draw scantily clad women with swords, right? ..........right?

blue

Another pic for ArtJumble...tried something a little different....

Death Dealer tat!

One of my buddies Ryan Rouse just got this done . A tat from one of my drawings of DD. The pic is a little blurry, but I have to say it looks pretty sweet!

Hairy little man

Female comic characters...

...were obviously designed by men. Agent 13 from Captain America and Power Girl from JSA....
