Drink and Draw

Well, it was the first Drink and Draw here in Phoenix, a good time was had by all. I'd like to take a moment to thank Ryan Cody for the invite. As you can see, being surrounded by all that talent inspired me to totally draw outside of my comfort zone. That's why you see something very rare from this blog; a Death Dealer and woman with sword!! ...I know..it's crazy....

nice! next time I'll try and think up some rules, to push everyone in different directions maybe, all I did was half ass a few Hellboys, so I didn't stretch by any means either.

Drink? Draw? Hey, I been doing both those since the 6th grade. In fact, I made one of them my career. The other one, drawing, I just do for fun in my spare time now.

You're lucky I wasn't there. My drawings start fights and make people cry. :-(

Rory. It's funny that this Drink and Draw thing came up because I was thinking about trying to do something similar with friend artists for a few years now but didnt know enough back then who would be interested. The only difference is that its "napkin drawing" so it keeps ya drawing loose, fast and discourages doing the safe staple drawings we get stuck on doing so often, especially when in front of our peers where everyone cant help but try to "impress" others with slick stuff. I like the raw sloppy sketchy stuff sometimes.
Napkins are awesome canvases for quick gags, cartoons and caricatures as well as getting rid of nose goblins and mopping up spilled beer. Ya just cant go wrong with them. It's my medium of choice. BONUS- it's also an excuse to drink.

Oops. "BONUS- It's an excuse to drink" - meaning going out to napkin draw, not the napkin themselves... ahhh, you know what I mean.

To Rodd; "Safe staple drawings"? You did see I drew a Death Dealer and woman with sword, right? I went WAY outside the comfort zone, pal!

Rory. Yeah, i did see that you dove head first into unchartered waters with the sword chicks and death dealer. Thats how you roll. Always pushing the envelope.
I was referring to my own safe staple drawings. You know, the buttcracks and juvenile stuff I do that makes people afraid to talk to me. I'm telling ya, though, it's money in the bank with the 9-13 year olds.

well bro if you have to try something new like burly bad guys and busty bashing babes, you do fine work... you might consider trying this a little more often, you might be on to something...

see you at the next one.
