Sketchin' with Harper

Been doing some sketching with very talented Harper Jaten. I have always enjoyed drawing with him , not only because he pushes me to draw a wider variety of subjects ( left to my own devices ,I would only draw barbarians and chicks with swords) but the man is extremely funny . Just click on his link and read his review of Sword, even if you don't dig that kind of music , his review is just brilliant!

Oh , and I was actually pretty happy with that Thing ,usually don't draw him too well.....

I don't think this character has been portrayed too well lately (coughCivilWarcough!) but the regular title has been very good, so if you like that kind of stuff , go pick up an issue , you won't be disappointed....

Hello , it's me again...

Yeah , the Black Panther is pretty much the same shot as an earlier post of Power man. Something about it was bothering me so I redrew the pose , changed some things and next thing I knew there was BP ....

I also posted a different interpretation of the earlier John Carter pic. This is right out of the sketch book and very rough , but I might work it into something.....or just add it to my long list of procrastinated projects....

I sketched this up for Art Jumble, thought i'd post it up here , still trying to forget the last post I did........eww, it hurts me .....

........dammit!

OK , so this is a good example of what NOT to do ; ...I drew this up in the sketchbook and did'nt hate it. So I lightboxed the rough onto another sheet of paper to clean up. While doing this I moved the human looking guy to the right , thinking t would give the pic a little more depth.

So I proceed to clean it up and apply my usual crappy inking and it is'nt until I'm finished that I realize the compositional mistakes I've made ; the biggest being the almost exact stance the two figures have , their legs and even the swords are parallel ! And it does'nt help that my blacks are a little too busy in places.....why did I even bother? ( you don't have to answer that , I'm more or less asking myself)

And yes, I just got back from a local comic convention where I witnessed some very talented individuals who don't suck anywhere as much as I .....it's doing wonders for my self-esteem....

I hope to post a fixed version soon, if I don't chop off my hand in frustration first......

Captain America

Drew it in Flash, Then worked the BG in PS . Just playing around with the tools to get a little more familiar....Have a long way to go in getting better...I still think there's too much contrast between the character and the background , but was happy with pulling back the saturation to grey everything out a bit . I think it gives it an older WWll photo look ........I could be wrong on this , but hey , you can always go back and play with the settings so no worries.....

Well I thought I'd try some brush work...been a while . Was never too good at inking but the rough stuff in a sketchbook is much easier.

Snake-Eyes!

Just some more sketchbook stuff. Was this guy not the coolest GI Joe character ever ? I was lucky enough to pick up the silent issue back when I was a kid , it was so friggin' cool ! Snake-eyes rescuing Scarlett from Cobra . No words. Just him fighting guards and Ninja's ( back when they were still cool ) . Not sure how it holds up today , but back in '83-'84 , this one one of the best issues ever !!

Yellow paper sucks

so I got this book I keep by my computer to just doodle and ...well, doodle, basically . Anyway , sometimes you get these happy accidents , and you really wish you had just been drawing in your sketchbook. I know I could lightbox this or clean it up , but it is what it is ; a doodle. I'm pretty sure my subconscience got this from an old Frazetta painting I'd seen in one of his books from back in the day, but for a pen drawing , I don't hate it . And figured I'd share....so here...on nasty yellow line paper ....( this blog is just gettin' worse and worse, huh ? ....)

Best Halloween Party Ever !!

Well, it's already that time again, Halloween ! For those of us in Phoenix , it means some nice weather and actually doing some things outside without dying of heatstroke . This little number is for the annual party Jim throws , it gets bigger and bigger every year ...and there's even women .... At Jim's !(if you had been to the earlier parties , you'd know why that's so suprising ) ...........anyway , it'll be here before you know it .....and you're all invited !!! ( well....all two of you that actually sees this ....)
